Who is Greenslade Taylor Hunt?

Greenslade Taylor Hunt (GTH) is a property and auction consultancy firm operating in the South West. With 21 offices across Devon, Somerset and Dorset and their head office in Taunton, GTH supports homeowners, developers and investors with securing residential, agricultural and commercial properties.

Owen Setter joined GTH in 2018, using his background of property and team management, to take on the role of Residential Manager before progressing into the Head of New Homes role in 2023. This promotion meant increased responsibility over managing a team of sales executives, managers and negotiators across different GTH branches to maximise sales efforts for new homes across the South West.

Challenge:

Owen was initially enrolled into our Sandler sales course by his management, as GTH were already clients of our South West branch. During this time, Owen gained awareness of personality clashes from individuals working below him that impacted productivity and communication, to the point that Owen had to intervene and de-escalate interpersonal conflicts within his team.

As Owen experienced more of our 1:1 mentoring, he found that he needed to optimise his management processes. This led to him consulting our team about our leadership training solutions.

Solution:

Owen enrolled in Sandler South West’s Emerging Leaders training programme, working closely with Harriet Harrison over a two-year period to apply the Sandler methodology to how he managed his team. This involved a mix of online Essentials training sessions and 1-2-1 coaching with our South West team.

Through the programme, Owen implemented core Sandler concepts including:

  • Creating and communicating a clear leadership philosophy

  • Delegating effectively and defining where roles start and end

  • Building a shared set of core values within the team

  • Holding difficult but necessary conversations with confidence

  • Separating personality from performance to support healthier decision-making

“I’ve gained so many skills and thought processes over the course of the last two years,” Owen Setter says. “It’s improved how we work within the team, how we build the cultures of the teams that we need to be successful and stick together, or not stick together; to give you the skills that you might need to actually go: ‘Do you know what? This setup doesn't work, and we need to change it.’”

Result:

Since taking on the training, Owen has massively improved his relationship with his team. By creating a consistent leadership framework, it has empowered him to confidently lead his team with greatly increased efficiency. He has also reported positive changes in his personal life, citing clearer and more compassionate communicating as a result of his learnings.

Owen has since then moved up to the role of New Homes Partner in December 2025.

“The leadership training has enabled me to create a better team environment,” Owen Setter says. “Now I know I have a team that understand each other, want to work for each other, and most importantly want to work together to do the best job they possibly can for the business.”

If you’re managing a team and know things could be better – clearer communication, stronger culture, more accountability – the Emerging Leaders programme is designed to help.

“if you are somebody who is managing a team and running an SME, if you're wanting to build efficiency, if you're wanting to build a better team culture, if you're wanting to build a better culture within your wider firm, you should think about Sandler’s Emerging Leaders training.”
