Goals Guide Our Decisions; Without Them, We Become Indecisive.

Creating Balance in My Life ...

I have lots of goals. Some are business related, others are financial, some are health oriented but, many are focused on having fun to create balance in my life.

🎯 You may recall my story of setting “trivial” goals a couple of years ago. I’m happy to share that I’m one step closer to meeting my goal of playing golf in all 50 states.

In a past life, I traveled and entertained a lot as part of my job. During a round of golf in Tennessee, someone asked me: “How many states have you played golf in?” At the time I didn’t know, so I got a map and counted. Twenty states.

⛳ A challenge was issued - “You should try to play in all 50!”

At the time I thought that it would be a cool thing to accomplish. And I said, “I think I’ll give it a shot.” At that point it wasn’t a goal. It was an aspiration. No timeline, no plan, no commitment, just an idea. In the next 5 years, I got 25 states without really thinking about it.

Then my role changed. The trips didn’t allow much golf, so the aspiration was forgotten, minus the map marking the 25 states I had played. My son got interested and wanted to know if I was going to do it.

⛳ The second challenge was issued.

This time I set a timeline – 50 states by October 2029. I built out a plan by grouping states together and thinking about how I could build trips around them.

It’s been a blast. Since setting the real goal about 6 years ago, I’ve had some amazing experiences with family, friends, business colleagues, and some complete strangers.

🏌️My son and I have checked off eight states together and my daughter joined us for my 41st in Utah.

Pursuing this goal has driven many decisions and led to incredible adventures I might never have experienced otherwise. It forces me to balance business goals and helps me hit other goals surrounding travel with my family and friends.

Goals guide your decisions. They don’t need to be big and audacious. They can be set day by day, month by month or year by year. They should be focused on helping you create balance in your life which will help you recharge and be more productive.

🤔 What are some of your favorite goals?
