Overcoming Roadblocks

|

It’s that time of year, we’re almost at Q4, with four months left to either make it, fall short, or crush it. How would you describe where you are in your business? Are you panicked or super excited? If the numbers show you are going to fall short — this article is for you.

Let’s consider the reasons you might be falling short of your goals:

  • Too much thinking and not enough action.
  • You’re searching for perfection.
  • You’re afraid to fail.
  • You’re procrastinating.
  • You’re completely overwhelmed.

Maybe it’s none of the above, and you’re just downright baffled by your lack of success. In other words, you have no idea why you aren’t meeting or exceeding your goals.

So, what separates people from various levels of success?

Statistics show that it is not schooling or education:

  1. The school you choose to go to has no bearing on your financial outcome.
  2. Most Entrepreneurs either didn't go to school or quit school.
  3. 41% of self-made millionaires were B students.

Watch as I break down those numbers even further.

Statistics show that it is not technical knowledge:

  • Only 15% of success comes from your technical knowledge, yet we spend most of our time and resources on technical knowledge.

Then, why is it that some people run from obstacles or search for the easiest way to accomplish a goal, while others see a roadblock and their mind immediately goes to fixing or overcoming it?

The answer is: 85% of your ability to be successful comes from your people skills.

People skills are the tools you use to communicate and interact effectively with others. Things like how others perceive you, confidence, and being highly likable are the results of your honed interpersonal skills.

Having confidence is a crucial ingredient to success. People with strong interpersonal skills go after challenges and proactively seek out solutions and often crush their goals. People who lack strong people skills often find themselves falling behind and are quick to quit on their goals.

Strong people skills can open career doors, allow you to contribute more to your team, facilitate active listening, and enable you to better connect with others.

If you find you are falling short of your goals, most likely, your self-limiting beliefs are sabotaging your success. Negative thoughts about yourself, cynical self-talk, and lack of worthiness can all contribute to your lack of success.

People skills are one of the most underappreciated areas of career development. Good interpersonal skills give you an extra edge, reinforcing good buying decisions for your prospects and opening up new avenues for future referrals.

I work with Advisors across the country in developing people skills and removing self-limiting beliefs, all of which result in an increased book of business and happier Advisors.
