Should you be more active on social media?

|

Let's be honest; not everyone is comfortable with social media. And certainly, one organization may get more or less out of it than another.

Knowing that's true, what might be the benefit for you or your company to be more active on social media? Should you be posting more often? What are the pros, so you can determine if they outweigh the cons or not?

Here are three reasons to consider regularly posting on social media for yourself or your organization.

Make people feel OK

In the sales world, we talk about making prospects feel OK instead of not OK. That concept is all about making people feel comfortable. It's about them lowering the defenses they've developed against salespeople because of negative experiences. That way, you can have an honest conversation with them about their pains and whether or not you can help them.

Posting on social media regularly is a great way to make people feel comfortable with you before they even meet you! If they've seen you online and like what you have to say, they already feel OK before they interact with you.

Increase trust level

Two factors in your social media posts can help increase the amount of trust people have in you before even meeting you. First, if you have an abundance mentality, you won't mind sharing industry information that could benefit others. Someone openly sharing is easier to trust than someone who isn't.

Second, if you post consistently over time, you're demonstrating reliability. If you post sporadically when you have time, or you don't post at all, people won't have any indicators of whether you're reliable or not.

Work the algorithm

The social media world runs on algorithms. Those algorithms determine what people see and don't see on social media. So how do you make it more likely people will see your organization?

The algorithms love it when you post regularly. Not only is consistent posting good for building trust with people, but it increases how much the algorithm trusts you. And if the algorithm trusts you, you're more likely to show up in people's feeds and searches.

So if you're not already posting regularly, consider adding it as one of your ongoing marketing tactics.
